Thoropass, an all-in-one compliance, audit, and assessment platform, helps businesses manage risk through real-time monitoring, evidence collection, and in-house audit support. Automation is at the heart of the Thoropass customer experience — and automation relies on integrations. 

To deliver the white-glove, tech-enabled processes its customers expect, Thoropass needs reliable access to company data, including the information housed in HR systems. 

Through Finch, Thoropass has unlocked access to 28 HR systems while saving more than 4,500 engineering hours and $150K+ in sandbox fees, and closed some of its largest enterprise deals — 10x the size of their average ACV. 

Building the case for automation

Annual audits are high-stakes milestones that validate a company’s security practices and operational maturity. But getting to the finish line is a heavy lift, especially for lean teams. Without automation, assembling the required documentation can take weeks, distract internal stakeholders, and run the risk of error.

“Integrations are the core value of our app,” said James Fletcher, Product Manager at Thoropass. “Customers buy Thoropass to have an easy, breezy audit enabled by technology, specifically integrations. Finch powers that automation — the insights and guided workflows that help people maintain their compliance program much easier.”

Finch accelerates time-to-integration and time-to-close

For Thoropass, the decision to partner with Finch came down to time and opportunity. At the time, the company had just a handful of HR integrations, and each one took a month to build.

“We could build these ourselves,” James said, “but if it’s going to take us 2–3 years to build decent market coverage and we can do it in 2 months with Finch, why would we?”

It worked. Thoropass integrated with Finch in 1 month and immediately expanded its HRIS coverage, supporting 28 providers across platforms like ADP, Paychex, Justworks, and Workday — integrations that are used by 45% of its customers. Because Finch handles ongoing maintenance, Thoropass can allocate engineering resources to core product development and respond quickly to sales needs.

“Now we can add new integrations within an afternoon,” James said. “That’s huge in sales conversations. We can tell a potential customer we’ll build a connection to their system, and they’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’m getting a custom integration.’ It really helps sell that white-glove experience.”

This agility is especially valuable given Thoropass’ diverse customer base, which ranges from startups with a handful of employees to global enterprises with multiple HR systems. In fact, HR integration support through Finch has played a pivotal role in winning key enterprise accounts, including one with an ACV 10x their average deal size.

“Our approach to integration and monitoring has led to us landing some of our biggest contracts,” James explained. “One of our largest customers uses Workday. Finch helped us get that integration up and running without needing a $150K Workday sandbox. That just wouldn’t have been feasible otherwise.”

A strategic shift: from building to partnering

When Thoropass first implemented Finch, it was the only unified API provider in their stack. But the experience proved so successful that the company adopted a new strategy: focus on best-in-class platforms that specialize deeply in their respective domains.

“The success we had with Finch really changed our mind on strategy,” James said. “We used to build everything in-house. But we realized it made more sense to give up some control and partner with domain experts, especially for long-tail integrations.”

Today, Finch supports all but one of Thoropass’ HR integrations and continues to play an active role in product development. Thoropass meets weekly with a Finch Developer Success Engineer to triage customer feedback, shape roadmap priorities, and work through edge cases.

Looking Ahead: From Integration to Insight

As Thoropass continues to scale, it’s exploring how to bring even more intelligence to the audit experience by leveraging the breadth of data it already aggregates, from HR to cloud infrastructure to vulnerability scans. With Finch, the foundation is already in place.

“Finch has done a ton of work to create a unified API model, where you’ve got a schema for all of the data across HR systems, and it appears the same way every time,” James said. “That enables us to do a lot of really cool work on top of it, because we have a known good starting point. We’re excited to keep building on that foundation.”
